The limited liability company Riga Central Terminal (RCT) is the largest multi-functional stevedoring company in the Republic of Latvia, having provided terminal management and cargo handling services since 1996. In 2007, a 100% of RCT's shares were incorporated into the Riga Commercial Port (RTO) company.
RCT manages a 67 hectares terminal area of land and 13 berths with a total length of 2,424 metres with maximum draft of 11.7 metres, which are capable of handling PANAMAX class vessels. The terminal provides 158,000 square meters of open storage space and 58,000 square meters of warehouse space. Excellent access roads and 19.5 kilometres of dedicated wide gauge (1520 mm) private railway tracks make it the most comprehensive terminal facility in the Baltic States.
RCT specialises in handling dry bulk cargo, general cargo, Ro-Ro (roll-on-roll-off) and other types of cargo. Terminal aims at providing the best infrastructure for transit cargo transhipment and storage activities, and developing a cargo portfolio beyond the traditional dry bulk cargo segment to include more value-added activities. As of 2008 the company has successfully implemented the containerisation program, which includes new services of customs, forwarding and logistics solutions.
RCT employs 475 qualified stevedores who ensure smooth and efficient operation of the terminal on a daily 24 hours basis, 363 days a year. RCT regularly seeks to extend its staff capabilities by training and skill upgrade programmes.
