Largest Ship in History of Riga Port Handled by Riga Central Terminal LLC

Riga Central Terminal LLC (RCT) has handled the first capesize vessel, the MV Nord Pisces, in the history of Riga port. A total of 93,500 tons of coal was loaded onto the carrier.

“This has been the first time that the port of Riga accepted a capesize vessel. Until now, RCT has been attending Panamax ships at its berths. The handling of capesize vessels will raise the competitiveness of the port of Riga in the Baltic Sea region. The recently acquired AIST portal crane was used for the loading, substantially increasing loading speed and efficiency,” notes Eri Esta, Chairman of RCT’s Board.

The loaded vessel left Riga for its destination, the port of Immingham in England, via the port of Ijmuiden in Amsterdam.

Located in the port of Riga, RCT is one of the largest stevedoring companies in Latvia, having provided services since 1996. RCT is a Riga Commercial Port LLC (RTO) group company. In 2010, RCT handled 6.5 million tons of cargo with revenues of 22.3 million Euro.

RTO is the leading investor, developer and operator of port terminals and transit services in the Republic of Latvia. In 2010, the RTO group of companies handled a cumulative cargo throughput of 22.6 million tons.
