Riga Central Terminal sets a new record for container vessel operations

On March 23, 2010 Riga Central Terminal (RCT) received MV Lappland of the Transbaltica Container Line (TBL). The container vessel arrived at RCT berth No. 6 at 23:20 and discharged 154 TEU (twenty foot equivalent units) and loaded 77 TEU as a return cargo. Handling operations were completed within 6 hours and the vessel departed the facility at 06:30 a.m on March 24, 2010.

A new record for vessel operations of 33 net moves per hour was achieved by simulatenously utilising a mobile and two Condor (40 tons) cranes. This result offsets the previously attained average result of 23 to 28 moves per hour.

“An incremental increase in the discharging and loading rate of vessel operations demonstrates that RCT is capable of fast and reliable container handling services that are equivalent to those offered at specialized container terminals,” notes Helmuts Kols, Board Member of Riga Commercial Port (RTO).

TBL is managed by Mann Lines, and provides container feeder service on loop between Rotterdam, Bremerhaven, Hamburg, Gdynia, Kaliningrad and St. Petersburg. Since 2006, TBL has carried approximately 75,000 TEU (twenty foot equivalent containers). For more information, see www.mannlines.com.
